I meant to make serious headway on WHY's prologue yesterday, being as how I had a light day and had finally, finally stumbled upon a good framing mechanism. Instead, I figured out the wizarding government. Not just the Wizengamot and the Ministry, but a legislature and political parties and party leadership. Which brings me to a question.

What is an undersecretary? From what I can see (from wikipedia), it's effectively like a right hand man, though with more ambitious connotations than a Chief of Staff. Dolores Umbridge is referred to as both Special Assistant to the Minister and Senior Undersecretary to the Minister, and I'm not entirely sure if those are separately or simultaneously held positions.

If anyone wants to bounce my governmental outline off their own or whatever, I am more than up for it.

So I vanish from the internet for a few days for the benefit of jobsearching and maybe writing productivity (goddamn prologues kill me, really) and apparently "Censorgate/Fandomgate/Somethinggate" occurs. Can anyone tell me...erm...what happened?

Plus I am tired of seeing gate as a suffix. Watergate today would be like a giant conspiracy to make the ocean disappear. Seriously. Nixon would wake up and the ocean would be missing. L O S T.

Sooo I swore to myself that I'd revisit WHY when I returned from college. And I am, I swear. Good god, there's too much damn backstory to sort through. Seriously, the fic only covers 1975-1981 and I've already had to note events that happen anywhere from 1967 to 185X. For example, I know that from 1940 to 1945, Abraxas Malfoy was a member of the anti-Grindelwald citizen's defence league called the Order of Britannic Wands. I know exactly when and how Voldemort's first war started and how and why James, Remus, Sirius, Peter, and Lily are tied to it. And I have no idea where to start.

How do you handle this stuff? Is there any virtue to a 1970 prologue for a 1975 first chapter? Advice is needed and oh so desired!

Okay, I'm back. Freshman year of college is complete.

I'm setting up something big to return to We Happy Yobs, a total and complete, from the beginning rewrite. Currently working on dramatis personae and dossiers, along with a clearer outline. Nothing will probably be posted until after Deathly Hallows, to correspond to appropriate canon.

Now I have my university laptop! (Woo!) So now I can write WHY again, considering I have Word back online. Will begin doing so posthaste.

Right, so I know updates were promised and have not yet made their way to your eyes...

Here's the thing: We Happy Yobs is going into heavy revision. There was way too much I didn't account for at the beginning--Bellatrix being the eldest, the age of the Potters, the fact that the First War lasted eleven years while I had it beginning in '75, amongst other canon points. The new Black Family Tree also helped cement that decision, along with some doubts about the Bella/James storyline. That and a lack of planning and forethought had led to a severe miscalculation on what should have been breezy ease...

I'm starting with a new prologue, taking place in 1970, and we'll take it from 75 on starting in ch. 1. Don't worry, it'll get written. Computer is also having problems.

Haven't given much work to Red Means Stop, but have been doing the original thing.

Some one-shots, in continuity with WHY, may be uploaded: they will focus on Voldemort between 1940 and 1970, as he acquires various skills and followers in his travels.

Writing again, including an OC fic focusing on the staff of the Daily Prophet. Current title is Prophet Margin.

I'm considering attempting a multifandom crossover sequence fic, in the style of the 5thingsthat challenge. Basically, it'd be X-number of fandom viginettes tied together. EXAMPLE:

1. House/Veronica Mars cross
2. Veronica Mars/The Office cross
3. The Office/Harry Potter cross
4. Harry Potter/House cross

Would anybody be interested in attempting it alongside me?

PROJECTS
Harry Potter - We Happy Yobs (MWPP) - Chapter 10. This is actually mostly written, I'm draft-scrounging and rearranging. I am a horrible person.

Veronica Mars - Red Means Stop (AU of the Lilly didn't die but Veronica's life still sucks variety) - Chapter 2. The first chapter is done and betaed, waiting for a return on the nitpick read. This won't be posted for a while, because I'm trying to keep ahead of demand and have more chapters written before I post. Also, I have the mysteries planned out, so I can begin sowing clues as early as possible.

Saw another Xterra, canary yellow, on the way to my AP Mod Euro exam.
